Reflecting on 2010 and looking forward to 2011!!

Another year is coming to an end soon and I do believe that I am ready to see this one go! All though God blessed us in many ways and overall it was an okay year, we had a lot of loss too! It was a tough year in that sense because there is nothing worse than seeing the ones that you love grieve. I am a "fix it" type of gal and that is just something that I can't fix nor make better.

I have learned that life truly is precious, I can be here today and gone the next! I have learned that while I am on this earth I want to be the very best person, wife, mother, friend and teacher that I can be.

Life gets busy and I do feel that I need to make time for those that are important to me.

I can't be the person that everyone wants me to be, I can't please everyone, what I can do is be me and love the people who accept ... me for who I am, what I am and what I stand for.

Seeing the word Obese stamped on my MIL's death certificate awoke a certain fear in me. I don't want that to be stamped on mine because I refused to lose weight and exercise.

So I am not going to call it my New Year's Resolutions instead I am going to call it my 2011 promises to ME! 11 is my favorite number so I expect it to be the most amazing year ever!! (fingers crossed) :)

Hit my goal weigh of 128

Exercise at least 5 days a week for 30 minutes

Let go of unhealthy or superficial relationships

Continue to try to be the best person that I know how to be

Pray more

Run a 1/2 marathon

Blog at least once a week

Concentrate on the positive of each day

Count my blessings and give thanks on a daily basis

3 weeks on program and a 5lb loss!

Hello Friends,
I went to the doctor yesterday and it seems like I am in good health!! I have lost 5 pounds the last three weeks and I am weighing in at 162 these days!! Pretty darn exciting I must say!! The Doc said he would like for me to lose 30 more pounds. He wants me under 150 by March. It's doable, for sure! My running is going well ... I am not the fastest of runners but I know that it "does the body good".
I have started to use my runs as my thinking time! My time to myself if you will. I sometimes dream that I am in the middle of a 1/2 marathon and I imagine how good it would feel to accomplish that! There seems to be 1/2 marathon coming up in March nearby. I don't think that I can train in 3 months for a 1/2 but I can definitely do a 5k.
Life is good these days! I hope your life is good too!

11 days and counting on the new WW's program!

I can honestly say that I followed the old WW's program maybe for a total of 4 days on a given week. My favorite part of going to meetings was clapping for all of those who lost weight. I would genuinely be excited for them ..you would have thought that I was getting the award. I know the old program worked because I witnessed many members shed 50, 100+ pounds.

My husband's uncle passed away of a heart attack, this was my mother-in-law's brother. So in less than two months we lost two very special family members. What keeps resonating in my head is my health. Is this a wake up call? My mother-in-law was considered obese and I saw that on the death certificate. It made an impact on me, it scared me because I am not far from being considered obese.

It's no longer about being a hottie, it is more about being healthy. I want to live a long healthy life and feel good about myself. Now, looking like a hottie will be a definite plus don't get me wrong! I want to lose 40-45 pounds and I think I am at my breaking point. I am focused and I have never felt the need to lose this weight as much as I do now.

Back to WW's ... I am super excited about the new program. Why? Because it is a fresh start for me! I didn't follow the old one for more than 4 to 5 days and guess what... I am on day 11 of tracking. I like this program more because I haven't been hungry so far. I also appreciate fruit and vegetables more since they are "free". I no longer rely on those 100 calorie count packets.

I've always doubted that I can get back to my goal weight ... I have put that doubt away!

My friends we must take care of our body ... it is the only one that God blessed us with.

Holidays, love them... but this one was tough.

I love this time of year because of the decorating, holiday spirit, shopping and that natural high you get from buying others presents! Oh and who am I kidding ... the food! We had an outstanding feast in the company of our parents. There was one thing or person missing, my mother-in-law. For those who know me, I am a fixer! I want to fix the situation, make my husband feel better, I want her my (MIL) to walk in the door! I know, I know time heals all wounds, it's only been two months and yadee, yadee, da, da! I know all this but I can still pout and be angry, right? I also know that we are not the only family going through this .... unfortunately one of my dear, dear friends mom passed away in March and I know that her family is going through this too. I will continue to "pluck along" and have faith that with time things will get better.

I weighed myself this morning and I weighed in at 168. I haven't drowned myself in food, well not entirely! I hear that WW's is changing their program this week so I am looking forward to that. I have been exercising and although I don't look forward to it, the feeling I get afterwards is totally worth it!

So this week I will continue with my challenge and the C25k. I will also write down all that I eat and hope that I can post a loss by next week.

Thanks for reading and please say a little prayer for us! :O)

Workout done for the day ...

I am off from work this week because our school district was kind enough to give us the entire week off. Yay!! So, today I decided to go to bootcamp at 5:30 this morning. As I was driving to the gym I kept asking myself if I should be proud of the fact that I woke up at 5:00 or just declare myself insane. Bootcamp was tough... I cussed a couple of times, in my head of course! When I looked at the clock and saw that it was 6:30
I felt a great JOY inside of me. It was over, finito, done and man was I excited that a) I lived through it and b) my workout was done for the day!  So day two of my 21 day workout challenge is d-o-n-e!! Happy day to all!!

First run down and a little "Craft Fever"

Wow, so I officially started my first day of my 21 day challenge and it felt great! I must say I did a lot more walking than jogging but I was moving rather than sitting on the couch! In my book, that is a start and a good one I must add.

Besides wanting to be fit and trim I long to be a little crafty creature. You see I have friends that are super crafty like Erin at http://craftsandsutch.blogspot.com/ she is super talented and every time she makes something it turns out super cute. She has been my inspiration for some months and I have finally created some of my own "Crafty treasures". These are by no means complicated or out of this world but they are cute and a great start!

Hiatus ...it's over!!

Wow it has been so long and I must say that I have missed you! Thanks for all the sweet comments in regards to my mother-in-law. We got the autopsy report and it seems that she passed away from pneumonia out of all things! It's been almost two months and it is still hard but we are coming to terms with her death and good days are now outnumbering the bad days.

The past two weeks I have been a snot fest!! I had pretty bad allergies so the working out part came to a halt yet again. The counting of the points ... well apparently took the same path as the counting of the points, non existent. I thought to myself yesterday that I could just wait until after the 1st of the year to get back on track. I quickly realized that if I adopt that philosophy I will gain more wait thus have more weight to lose after the first. I have only gained 2 pounds but those 2 pounds could quickly turn into 5, 10 and 15. I must say that considering all the stress we have been under 2 pounds is pretty good for yours truly!

I am off all of next week so I am thinking that it is time for another self challenge let's say 21 days starting tomorrow. In order for it to count it must be at least 1 mile. I think this is what I need.

Wish me luck and I want to know .... what was the "thing" that finally made you say I am doing it and you stuck to it!

A LOSS .... NOT ONE THAT I WANTED OR WAS READY FOR!

On September 20th I was in the middle of teaching my classroom when my cell started ringing. I usually don't answer it while I am at school but when they called back immediately I had a feeling something wasn't right. I picked up the phone and my brother-in-law said, "Mom is gone". I asked where she had gone and his response was, "She is dead". She was 57 years old, my husband had spoken to her two days before and she was fine! She took a nap and never woke up again. We will not know the cause of her death for at least another 2 weeks.

So I haven't been blogging because we have been very busy since then and because I am finally feeling a little more like myself. I have not exercised because my sleep has been sporadic. There are nights were I sleep 3 hours and some when I wake up on the hour. I feel drained emotionally and physically. My appetite has been almost non existent which is not like me because I am an emotional eater at heart. I have lost weight and if it was under any other circumstance I would be ecstatic.

It's hard to see my husband and my little girl so sad and try to maintain my composure and be the strong one. We all miss her very much!

I am going to begin exercising again this week. I actually miss it and think that it can get me through this time.

I  apologize if my post this time was sort of a downer ..... I am looking forward to going back to my routine and the way things were before that phone call.

Thanks for "listening".

A signature and doctor's orders!

Thanks to my good friend E I now have a signature. I know I have not blogged in quite some time and feel bad that I haven't. In a nutshell I went to the doctor last week and he told me that I have to lose 15 pounds by my next visit which is December 21st. I am still processing this because I have never actually been told that I have to lose weight! It has been suggested and I have always known it but to be told "you have to do it" because you are on the verge of being diabetic has scared me.
It's no longer a "I want to lose weight to look good" it has now become you either lose weight or you will be a diabetic.
So here I ago! He said I have to lose 15 pounds by December 21st ... well I will show him and lose at least 2 more pounds and make it 17! :O)
Have a fantastic week and I am starting at 169

Oh my .....

I have been missing you guys! I haven't blogged because life has been beyond hectic since the new school year starts tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow! Hard to believe .... it has been a great summer and we have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am ready to get my routine down. I am going for a walk  jog tonight. I am not quite ready to start another challenge just yet! My body is still adjusting to the medication but I am feeling better each day.
I think this school year is going to be a good one! I am hoping to shrink a little each month and be at my goal weight by the time the school year ends. Wish me luck!

Back from my exercise hiatus...

I guess I decided to take a vacation from life, exercising and tracking points. The good news is that I am back! I don't know if my body was trying to get used to the new medication but I was just in a total funk. It seemed like all that I wanted to do or could do was sleep.
The hubs and Ems took a day trip and I had the day to myself yesterday. It was wonderful if I may say so myself :) I floated in the pool, did a little shopping and got refreshed and feel rejuvenated.
As I was floating I decided to get over myself and JUST DO IT!! I watched the Ironman in Kona and my gosh those people are beyond amazing. I can't even fathom putting my body through that. I don't know that my body could even do it! I am sure that it could if it was properly trained ...... Hummmmm this makes my wheels start turning and possibly key word possibly makes me want to sign up for the Houston 1/2 marathon in January. I am thinking about it .....
Last week of summer vacation for me .... a little sad but so thankful that I had these months off to spend with my family.
How many of you have done a 1/2 marathon? Will you share your story with me?
:D Lucy

Wow .... I have what?

Well I am sorry that I have not blogged in a while. I went to the doctor a week ago because I was experiencing some dizziness the past 3 months. I finally decided to go see what was going on because the dizzy spells were getting worse and they typically happened after working out. I went to the doctor and stated what I was feeling. After some blood work Doc told me that I am insulin resistant. That explains the why of a few things. The why I can't lose weight, the why I get so dizzy and the why of my obsession with potatoes. Apparently my body produces to much insulin and can't properly break down what I eat. The solution he came up with was to put me on Metformin and follow a low carb diet. I am the saddest about the low carb restriction, I love them! I am glad that I finally know why I work my arse off and then experience a .2 loss or .6! I was seriously going to throw in the towel and drown my sorrows in tortilla chips, queso and Margaritas!

I had a lingering stomach bug and sleepless nights so I have not started working out. Tonight might just be the start of my 15 day streak!

I have mentioned before that I am a school teacher and I go back to work in a week and a half! Yikes!! I am going to miss my daily morning routine ... coffee, checking my blog up dates and seeing what y'all are up to! I guess I will have to make it part of my evening routine! I have truly enjoyed blogging and appreciate all of your inspirational comments, you girls are great!

Have a terrific Thursday

My 15 day streak was rudely interrupted!

Thursday we decided to go out to eat and I decided that I would have a bake potato and a side salad. Withing 30 minutes of leaving the restaurant my stomach started gurgling and the cramps set in. Withing an hour I was in severe pain and the bathroom and I became pals. Needless to say I was in bed that evening and could not run. I took off yesterday because I was still not feeling like I could run. I felt okay but my stomach was still super sensitive and I was extremely tired.

So, with that being said I have decided to start my 15 day streak of running once again. I am going to tweak it and say that I will either run at least a mile or do some form of cardio like bodycombat or kickboxing for the next 15 days. I may run all 15 days or I may mix it up. I want to do this because I have noticed some soreness in my feet when I wake up. The hubs thinks it's from running on concrete day after day.

I went back to WW's today and I weighed in at 168.6. Here I go, here I go once again... drop the weight, drop the weight!

Have a great weekend :)

Still running .....

I am still running everyday! I think my neighbors think I am part hamster. I say this because I wait to run until 9:00 or so at night and I run up and down our street. It's so funny that I am getting to "know" my neighbors routines. I know who will be sitting out in the garage, who will be grilling which by the way is torture as I am running. I am still far from in love with running but I am liking it more, just a tad bit each day.

So I had to go to the doctor yesterday and he insisted that I get a tetanus shot. One word, OUCH!!! The shot was painful but the aftermath of it is even worse. I woke up with a golf size ball on my arm and it feels like I did 500 push ups on just that arm. Boo on the shot but the good news is I don't have to do that again for 10 years.

My weight loss is still minimal but I feel like I am getting in shape more and more each day.

Have a terrific day and smile at a complete stranger and make someones day. :)

6. I am blessed to have an amazing family and an equally amazing group of friends.

7. I am a Middle School Spanish teacher.

I promise to post the 15 newly discovered blogs tomorrow ... I am sleepy!

My runs and tracking points :)

HI! I have not blogged in quite sometime. My three sisters were in town and we had a fantastic time. The "eats" (my eating habits) were not exactly the best but we had a great time and it was all well worth it. I did run while they were here so at least I didn't let my running go. I am a bit depressed because they are gone and last night I felt like drowning my sadness in food, but I didn't! Instead I went out for a jog and it felt great. I am five days into my 15 day running challenge so I have 10 more days to go! I can do it or so I think I can. :)

I have decided to be brave and add another challenge to the mix! I am going to journal everything that I eat for the next 15 days. Hello, I should be doing this anyway since I am paying WW's! I am going to weigh in this Saturday and continue my weigh ins for at least 3 weeks. Small steps ... small steps will eventually turn into bigger and bigger steps. :)

Happy Monday to all and thanks for following my journey!

:) Lucy

Today I begin my 15 day challenge!

After successfully completing my 11 day challenge I took 3 days off to let the legs rest. Today I kept feeling a bit antsy and ready to hit the streets again, to run of course, nothing else! So I took off on my run and it felt great, almost liberating and I almost felt like I missed running. Hard to believe quite frankly. Me, Lucy, miss running? Impossible but yet so true.
So I have decided to start my 15 day challenge today. I will run at least 1 mile for the next 15 days, continue with the 100 crunches and add 33 girlie push ups. I am hoping to shed 5 pounds during the next 15 days too!
My relatives are still in town and I am enjoying them thoroughly. I will go back to the "real world of WW's starting Monday". I have not gone to a meeting in almost a month. I promise that I will weigh in next Saturday! Pinky promise to all! I am not going to weigh myself until then. Yikes a little scary to think of the fact that I will not weigh in until then. I am a twice a week, okay three times a week weigher! (I know that is not even a word) as of today, I declare it a word! Haaaaa
Wish me luck and feel free to join me on my challenge!

Yay I did it ...11 day challenge check

So as the title of this blog states, I did it! I set out to run at least one mile for 11 days straight and guess what? I did it! This is huge because I usually start out strong but around day 5 or 6 I say, "ummm that's enough of that" and flat out quit. I had great runs and I had extremely hard runs. Slow and even slower runs but they got done!
I am super excited that I followed through and did it. Now I need to work on my eating! I am still not 100% counting points which I need to change. I am not going to lose weight unless I get my counting on track!!
It felt amazing to put my goal first and regardless of what the day brought I still did what I needed to do for me.

Day 4,3, 2 (Wow it is close to the finish)

I apologize for not blogging everyday but my family is in town from Mexico and I don't get to see them very often at all. I have spent a lot of time hanging out, shopping and eating. Yeah, my eating when family is here is not so good. They are on vacations and I apparently go "on WW's vacation" while they are here. Not good huh?

Running ... well I have one more day and I will have officially completed my 11 day challenge! I might add that although I have had company it hasn't stopped me from going out and running. Sometimes it is at 10:30 at night but I get out there and do it! Day 4 I ran 2.25, day 3 I ran 1.2 and day 2, today I ran 2.2. How does it feel, well part of me is in complete shock that I am 1 day away from completing this task! I am excited but scared! Scared of what? Of the fact that I set out to do something and I am actually going to follow through and finish it! This is something that I set out to do for me, and I did it! Crazy isn't it!?! I set out to do something and I completed it and it scares me!!

I think that it has shown me that if I trully stick to WW's I will lose the weight. For some reason it scares the hell out of me to actually lose weight! Does anyone else out there feel this way?!?

Thanks for the award that I got from .... I will have to go back and look! I was so excited to get it and I promise that I will figure out how to post it and do what it requires me to do on Sunday. We are off to Austin to visit with the family. I will catch back up with you my bloggie friends Sunday!!

Thanks for sharing this journey with me :D

Day 5

Ran 2.25 miles last night. It was a good little jog! I must admit it was 9:45 and I thought I must put on my running shoes and go. It was awesome to not have that "yuck" feeling behind the thought of having to go and jog. I think my approach to running has totally changed. I have come to the realization that I am never going to remotely come close to being a competitive runner but at least I am out there doing it! The only time that I will "sprint" is if I am being chased by a human or a dog! I no longer concentrate on the huffing and puffing of by body. I concentrate on the fact that I have a body that works!
A very dear friend of mine lost her mother this past year. Her mom was in a wheelchair for most of her life. I never once pitied her mother because she was a pillar of strength and she didn't pity her own self! She never allowed the wheelchair to stop her from being part of events. Most of the time she was THE event coordinator. She was one of the classiest, funniest, kind hearted souls and just a sweet spirit in peoples life. I often "take" her along on my runs. When I think, "I can't go one step further" I often find myself taking that extra step because I know she would have wanted to take one step out of that wheelchair.
Is there anyone you take "along" on your runs?

Day 6 ...

I jogged 2.25 miles last night. I can't believe that I am doing it, I am! It's an amazing feeling to set out to do something and then actually be on the road to accomplish it!. I need to get my eating into sync with my exercising. I am not eating terrible but I am not counting points either! I have relatives from out of the country so they want to eat things that they don't have in their country. I don't blame them because when I visit them I want to do the same.
The effects of exercising are definitely well worth it. I seem to be in a good mood all the time and I don't want to nap 24/7! It feels great ...so why is it that I go through spells of being a total couch potato?!?!? Not anymore!
How long did it take you to see the results of your hard work?
:D Lucy

Day 8 and 7

Sorry for the late report but we went out of town for the weekend. I am superduper proud of the fact that I still continued to run through out our trip. Friday, I went to kickboxing and after the class I decided to try to get my run in. I got on the treadmill and knocked out 1.53 miles, after kickboxing! :) I was on cloud nine because I finally felt a glimpse of "I can do this".

Saturday I got up at 6:30 and jogged/walked a total of 3.43 miles before we left for the trip. It felt great to be done with my workout before 8:00 in the morning!

Tonight,(Sunday) we got home around 9:00 pm. I dropped my bag in the bedroom, changed and headed out for a mile and a half jog. :)

I am proud of the fact that I have stuck to my little challenge. The Lucy before would have dropped out by day 3 and found excuses of why I "NEEDED" to quit. Not this time!

My eating is not as good as it should be but I am working on it. I have visitors from out of town and I have decided to take them along on my journey. We will eat healthy and exercise and posibbly treat ourselves a bit because they are on vacation.

I may not have the body that I want ....YET but I do feel like I am getting a little stronger each day.

1, 2 or 3 miles ..... what will it be?

It has finally stopped raining here .... alleluia, alleluia, alleluyaaaaaaah! I couldn't run on the streets because of the rain yesterday so I hit the treadmill in our garage. Who needs hot yoga when I have a treadmill in the garage in the Texas heat! I ended up jogging/walking 4 miles!!! I didn't realize how much I miss those stop signs and street signs until yesterday. I play those mind games like, "You can stop and walk at the third stop sign". On the treadmill I had to say, "You can stop and walk after the the 3rd song is over".

The scale is slowly and I mean slowly going down. I wonder why it is such a slow process. My body has been hovering around the 165's for almost two years!! I am counting points and exercising like mad! I know this process is worth it and I continuously tell myself that!I am not going to quit, no mam, not this time!!

Question to those of you who are doing WW's or have done it in the past. Do you eat all of your activity and flex points?

Have a super Friday! :D

Day 10

Yesterday I did bodycombat and then came home and ran 2 miles on the treadmill. I did it without stopping to walk which is a pretty big accomplishment for me. I am thinking that today will be another 2 miler. Syl has inspired me to do 100 crunches so I am going to add that to my challenge as well. My challenge was inspired by 21 days I eventually want to go from 11 days to 21 days!! Both of these ladies have amazing blogs so check them out.

I have been blogging about a week or two and I absolutely love it!. I have learned some great tips and I feel like I am on this journey with other "friends". Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving such positive comments.

Have a super day :D

Blogging ?

If I want to mention someones blog in my post how do I do it? Do I have to copy and paste their URL? I would rather it be the name of the blog like I have seen on other blogs. Thank you for being patient with me ... I am new at this. BTW there are some amazing blogs out there!!

My 11 day challenge

I am going to run at least 1 mile for the next 11 days! Here I go, here I go, please wish me luck! :)

Tracking and Exercise at war with each other!!

So here is my challenge ... I workout like a mad woman and then not track or I track and then not workout. Seriously, how is this a productive way to lose weight, let's see, it's not! I only had a .whatever loss this week and realized that I have to do both. Hello Lucy!! It's not rocket science is it??? Why do I have such a hard time doing both? I think I am looking at the big picture and when I do it scares my face off! This is typically the point at which I say, "Adios, I am fine with the way I look". Well truthfully, I am not so I need to suck it up and do both. I had a bad case of the summer lazzies yesterday but I still worked out 2 hours. Yay me! I have the support of my family and friends but most importantly I now have my "bloggie friends" and I know you guys won't let me quit. So here is to tracking and exercising, doing both and not picking just one!
Here is my self challenge for the week! Exercise everyday, track every day and drink at least 90 ounces of water.
Thanks for supporting me on this journey!

Three things I realized ...

Tuesday a friend of mine, we will call her Betty, called and said, "What are you doing and how hot is it?" I new right when I said nothing but it is super hot outside that she was going to say let's go for a run. It's 3:00 in the afternoon and blazing hot! I knew she wouldn't let me be a wimp about it and that is one of the things that I love about our friendship. We headed out and did 5 minutes of walking and 5 minutes of jogging. About 2.5 miles into it I started over heating and had to stop and walk. I had one thing in mind, finishing the jog and proving to myself that I could do it. I kept telling myself that the jog was going to represent my weight loss, it was going to be hard and at times grueling but I am not going to stop until I hit goal! We made it home and that was when I realized three things: 1. I can do something that is challenging and not quit this time. 2. I need to wear sunscreen next time because my back was completely fried and 3. I have an amazing support system (my husband Chris, Betty, E, D, and all of my now Blogging Buddies) I can do this and I am going to do this.
Tonight I went for a jog and it was great! It was at 9:00 so it was dark, so my sunburn wasn't to painful. I ran 2.75 and it was great. I listened to Christian music and just thanked God for giving me a body that I can use. It is not perfect by any means but it works!
Today is one of those days were I feel like I can accomplish my goals .... what a great feeling that is!

I heard the voice inside me .....

I woke up this morning in a bit of a mood because I wanted to sleep, not hit the pavement. I reminded myself that sleeping in was not the way to begin my journey, today was the day .... the first day of taking control of my body/weight.

I live in Texas and the climate is less than desirable to jog in. Within 15 minutes I was drenched in sweat. I was hot, out of shape and just mad. All of a sudden I heard, "Hello, Hello, do you remember me? I am the athlete inside of you and I was wondering if you could remove the layers of fat! Being overweight is a product of 12 years of binging and yo yo dieting. I am in here, the athlete that you once loved and took care of and would love to come out and see myself in the mirror again. You can get me out, only you... so suck it up and finish this run!"

I was a competitive swimmer, volleyball player, basketball player and tennis player at one time. The athlete in me wants to come out! I think the thing that upsets me the most is that I did this to myself but the refreshing news is that I am taking control back and without a doubt I will stare in the mirror at that athlete inside of me.

We went to see Toy Story 3 yesterday so I envision the athlete inside me to be Jessie, the cowgirl but instead of wearing boots, she was wearing running shoes. :D

I am new, way new at this blogging stuff ...

I am a repeat offender at WW's! I have joined, re joined and joined again probably 7 times! The most weight I have lost is 25 pounds and it's my fault every time!! I think I can do it on my own, "I got this" and then all I have is more weight and bigger clothes. I love going to clap for others at WW's, you would think I was the one losing the weight. Well, I have come to the conclusion that clapping for others is not going to help me get to my goal weigh. I am not going to quit, not this time .... I plan to post my weigh ins every Saturday until I hit my goal weight of 137-134. My ultimate goal would be 126 ... I want to use my "blogging experience" as a way to keep me accountable, motivated and to share the ups and downs of this journey.
So here it is Saturday, June 26 I weighed in at 167.2
:D I hope to post less of me next Saturday!
